Saxophone Lessons for Beginners
Saxophone lessons for beginners start with gaining control over your sound and breathing, while working on some simple songs. It takes some persistence, but before long you will be playing with confidence and getting around your instrument with ease.
You will also learn to read music and understand basic music theory. Saxophone lessons are one on one with Jared. He also runs small group lessons.
In the beginning you will set some goals together and come up with a practice routine to get you started, have fun and keep you going.

Saxophone Lessons for Kids
Kids usually start on a smaller alto saxophone. Jared knows from experience that teaching saxophone to children requires technical know how, lots of encouragement and a good rapport. Jared teaches primary and secondary school aged children using a simple reward and recognition system. This helps younger children stay motivated with a practice routine. It is important parents share in their child’s musical journey by encouraging and rewarding progress. Parents are welcome to sit in with their child for the lesson.
Adult Saxophone Lessons
Adult saxophone students may be beginners or have some playing experience already. Jared will talk to you about the music you would love to play and what you’d like to achieve. He will also show you musical pieces that help develop your technique and understanding of what you are playing.
You can also learn saxophone for fun and choose popular songs you’d like to play.
Jazz improvisation is an exciting area for more advanced adult saxophone lessons. Improvisation skills are great for playing in a band or ensemble where you have the opportunity for saxophone soloing.
AMEB Saxophone Lessons and Saxophone for Leisure
AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) saxophone lessons take a structured approach to prepare a student for a graded music examination. This usually involves performing musical pieces from a set selection, testing music theory and aural ability. Knowledge of the music being performed is also tested. Jared teaches all AMEB saxophone grades including Saxophone for Leisure.
VCE Music lessons
Jared also teaches VCE Music performance units 1-4. He can work with you and your school music teacher to improve your saxophone performance skills, music theory and technical ability.
University Music Audition Preparation
If you want to study a university music degree you will need to do a great audition to get in. Jared provides expert tuition on sharpening your performance, getting a backing band together and insights on what lecturers are looking for. You may also need some music improvisation lessons.
Jared auditioned for Victorian College of the Arts (Melbourne University), Monash University, University of Western Australia Performing Arts, and James Morrision Academy of Music (Adelaide). He was invited to attend all these universities based on his outstanding auditions. He really knows what it takes to nail an audition.
